The First Post: The Introduction and Circumstances that lead to the invention of the PIOA

Dear Friends,

How are you? I was always waiting for this day when people will hear this concept of PIOA. Well, this is something important that I wanted to tell people for a long time. The world is progressing, and so is our country and the subcontinent. Our brothers here and beyond the borders are doing great. The nations are modernizing and things are getting better day by day.

People are learning new things, doing new things, adopting new things. Qualities of successful civilizations are getting revised day by day.

Now the matter is that we belong to just the second generation of the arrival of modern computers in India. And many of us started using computers and mobiles just after we were born. Many of us utilized computers in many ways. I don’t want to go the details of what happened in these years, just to mention I was born at the beginning of the 21st century.

Now because of the extensive reach of the Internet in every home in our dear country India (and same in other neighboring countries), literally speaking we eventually started surfing ‘the whole world’.

The usage of Latin script dates to the colonial times in India when it was under colonial rule, the British Raj (raj means rule). And when we, the Indians were heading towards the Swaraj (self-rule), we were still thinking about how we’ll live after independence. Everybody had his or her explanations and expectations. Our country chose to direct itself towards maintaining and uplifting our cultural heritage. When required, we’ll adapt ourselves to modern events and challenges while still retaining our cultural past.

We chose the local Devanagari script over the foreign Urdu script and Sanskrit lexicon over Arabic and Persian lexicon. Yet, we did not ignore the Urdu script and Perso-Arabic words are still used in common speech. India had a relatively stable contemporary history than many of its neighbors after Independence in 1947. Pakistan was under army regimes, it itself got divided into two states. The new nation, Bangladesh also led itself towards the path its big brother India. Still, it had a troubled past, starting from poverty and the assassination of the national leader Bangabandhu (=the friend of Bengal). Recently Nepal became a democracy after a long political struggle of two decades.

Within this time period ranging from the ’90s to the current period, the trend of writing Indian languages in the Latin alphabet had started increasing. Companies to increase trade in both India and Pakistan started making posters in Hinglish (Hindi mixed with too many English words and written with limited letters of the English alphabet).

How did I conceive my idea of modifying the Latin script? Wait for the next post!

P.S. - Sorry for my poor English. Don't worry, I won't mix any Hindi words in English. I also prefer using Hindustani words while speaking Hindi and Bangla words while speaking Bangla.

Invention of PIOA - Part 1

Hello Friends, So I was telling about the circumstances in which the PIOA emerged. I was small when I tried to compare different alphabets. Those days alphabets used to be my favorite thing to know about. I was too much addicted to this website called Omniglot (it's head, Simon Ager, is a nice person and I am thankful to him). I still know how to read numerous scripts. I am a proud Indian, proud because of my ancestral roots and the glorious heritage that I inherited. That's a long story. I eventually learnt reading Bengali (known by its endonym Bangla). I learnt Hindi because that's what I spoke mostly with outsiders in Mumbai. Anyways, learning Bangla and Hindi went hand in hand because they are similar in lexicon. The already too much Sanskritized language, my mother tongue Bangla helped in grasping the Hindi lessons (because the lessons taught in those classes were using a slightly Sanskritized version of Hindustani). Invention of PIOA - Part 3: Latin versus Devanagari

Hello Friends, There was a big issue going on during those days. People everywhere were using Latin letters in chat, messages, advertisements, reminders, notebooks, emails, posters everywhere to write Indian languages... Wait, what am I talking about?
